Lifespire has operated a behavior management program in Queens since 1993. The program provides weekly instruction to parents of individuals demonstrating problematic behaviors in the home environment. An Applied Behavioral Science Specialist (ABSS) provides training and assesses the individual’s behavior through both observation and parental report. A behavior support plan is then put into place. The ABSS then monitors the case and reviews progress with the family, answering all questions along the way. Referrals to the program come from both service coordinators and parents themselves. In 2004, the program had become so well-known that Lifespire applied for and obtained approval from the State to double the size of the Manhattan program. That program now serves 50 individuals per year.
In 2007, Lifespire applied for and obtained approval to open an in-home training program in Manhattan. In 2011, the State approved our request to expand in Queens. The Queens program is now operating at three times its original size and has served 80 individuals per year as of July 1st, 2011. In addition to English, services are available in Spanish for Manhattan residents and in Russian for Queens residents.
